Ouachita Singers and Women’s Chorus concert set for May 2

Ouachita Baptist University’s annual Ouachita Singers and Women’s Chorus spring concert will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on the Ouachita campus. The concert is free and open to the public. Ouachita Singers, fresh off their spring break concert tour in Italy, is Ouachita’s premier choral ensemble and is directed by Dr. Gary Gerber, dean of OBU’s School of Fine Arts. “At each concert, the choirs present a variety of choral music performed in an excellent way,” Dr. Gerber noted. He encourages “those who love music and enjoy hearing great performances” to attend the concert to hear the two groups.

The set list for the Ouachita Singers includes: “I Will Lift Mine Eyes” by Jake Runestad, Ivo Antognini’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” “Cells Planets” by Vince Peterson, “Õhtul (Evening)” by Pärt Uusberg, Eriks Esenvalds’ “Only in Sleep,” “All My Trials” by Norman Luboff and Christopher Tin’s “Bab Yetu.”

Dr. Becky Morrison, OBU assistant professor of music, is the director of Women’s Chorus. The selections that Women’s Chorus will perform include: “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” written by Martin Luther and arranged by Dan Forrest, “Seize the Day” from Walt Disney’s Newsies The Musical with music by Alan Menken and arranged by Kirby Shaw, Greg Gilpin’s “Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet,” John Rutter’s “A Gaelic Blessing,” Barbara Billingsley’s “Cover Me” and “Morning Hymn with Alleluia” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein from The Sound of Music.
