Ouachita’s annual Spotlight on Arkadelphia set for Aug. 22

Ouachita Baptist University’s annual Spotlight on Arkadelphia community and service
fair is set for Tuesday, Aug. 22, the first day of the 2017 fall semester. It will
be held from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Heflin Plaza and the Student Village circle.
The annual event draws hundreds of Ouachita students, faculty and staff, providing
area businesses, churches and organizations the opportunity to interact with the Ouachita
community. It is hosted by Ouachita’s Elrod Center for Family and Community.
More than 80 vendors typically participate in Spotlight. Community participants provide
free samples, T-shirts, coupons and other giveaways during the festival-style event.
“Spotlight provides a powerful opportunity for students to connect with members of
the Arkadelphia community at the beginning of a new academic year,” said Ian Cosh,
Ouachita vice president for community and international engagement. “The event has
become a favorite with returning students, but also provides new students with a fresh
insight into Arkadelphia.”
“At this event, our students are able to connect with a wide array of businesses,
non-profits, churches and restaurants and see first-hand all that Arkadelphia has
to offer,” added Judy Duvall, assistant director of the Elrod Center.
