Ouachita to host world-renowned pianist Dr. Yoosun Kang in concert Oct. 3

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Dr. Yoosun Kang in a piano
concert on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. This concert is free
and open to the public.
Dr. Kang, a native of South Korea, currently serves as a professor of music at Chung-Ang
University in South Korea and teaches applied piano and piano literature. Dr. Kang
earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Yonsei University in Seoul, Soth Korea; a Master
of Music degree from Indiana University; and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from
University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Musi.Dr. Kang studied internationally
with acclaimed pianists Edward Auer. Myung-Won Shin and James Tocco.
“Everyone who attends will be fortunate to be exposed to this performance,” said Dr.
Lei Cai, Ouchita professor of music.
Dr. Kang has been the recipient of many awards and prizes both in South Korea and
the United States for her performances as well as for being an active lecturer, including
the 2002 Korea Piano Society Competition Award for Outstanding Pianist of the Year
and Chung-Ang University’s Best Teaching Award from 2008 to 2013. Dr. Kang also writes
for the periodical journal The Piano in South Korea. In addition to her active work as a soloist, collaborative artist,
master-class clinician and lecturer, she is a member of the Piano Society of Korea,
as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the Korean Association of Piano
Pedagogy.
At the Ouachita concert Dr. Kang will perform “Sonata in B Minor” by Joseph Haydn,
“Sarcasms” by Sergei Prokofiev and “Sonata No. 1” by Robert Schumann.
