Ouachita to host chamber ensemble concerts Nov. 1 and 2

- Addy GoodmanOuachita Baptist University’s Department of Music will present two chamber ensemble
concerts Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 in McBeth Recital Hall. The Wednesday, Nov. 1, concert
will be held at 8 p.m. and showcase the brass instruments, and the Thursday, Nov.
2, concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. and will showcase the woodwinds. The concerts
are free and open to the public.
“These concerts are unique because you will hear a variety of ensembles and music,”
said Dr. Heather Thayer, assistant professor of music at Ouachita. “There are several
different instruments performing many different styles of music.”
The brass concert will include “Achieved Is the Glorious Work” from The Creation by Franz Joseph Haydn, “Ave Verum Corpus” by William Byrd, “Power” by John Stevens,
“Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl, “Hogwarts Forever” by John Williams, “Scarborough Fair
Revisited” by Fred W. Teuber, Edward Gogolak’s arrangement of “Personet Hodie,” “Farandole”
from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Georges Bizet and “Old Man March” by Robert Nagel.
The woodwinds concert will include “Danza Ritual del Fuego” by Manuel de Falla, “Quintet
Op. 124” by Giulio Briccialdi, “Andante” and “Allegro Marziale” from “Annen-Polka
op. 137” by Johann Strauss, “String Quintet in G minor K 516” by Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart, “Quatour pour Flutes” by Pierra Max Dubois and “A Gaelic Offering” by Catherine
McMichael.
Members of the first woodwind ensemble include: Betty Patterson, a sophomore mathematics
major from Garland, Texas, on flute; Jordan Ford, a freshman biology major from Benton,
Texas, on oboe; Ashley Lovely, a senior music education major from Van Alstyne, Texas,
on clarinet; Holli Barger, a freshman music education major from Carrollton, Texas,
on horn; and Abby Morse, a sophomore English major from Georgetown, Texas, on bassoon.
Members of the second woodwind ensemble include: Sarah Rush, a freshman Spanish major
from Maumelle, Ark., on flute; Danielle Schaal, a junior biology major from Fayetteville,
Ark., on oboe; Ashlynne Turner, a freshman music education major from Burleson, Texas,
on clarinet; Lydia Poole, a freshman music education major from Hot Springs, Ark.,
on horn; and Amy Lytle, a senior music and theatre arts double major from Plano, Texas,
on cello.
Members of the third woodwind ensemble include: Tiffany Dee, a sophomore finance major
from Pearcy, Ark.; Bethany Crawley, a freshman elementary education major from Jonesboro,
Ark.; Kristin Grant, assistant professor of music, and Patterson.
Members of the first brass section include: Michael Burer, a freshman music education
major from Forney, Texas; Cayli Campbell, a junior instrumental performance major
from Texarkana, Texas; Bryson Clegg, a music and political science double major from
Malvern, Ark.; Rachel Clifton, a music education major from Alma, Ark.; Andrew Coop,
a freshman worship arts major from Gladewater, Texas; Joshua McCaffrey, a freshman
music education major from Allen, Texas; and Allan Schroeder, a freshman worship arts
major from Carrollton, Texas.
Members of the second brass section include, on euphonium: Campbell; Seth Caraway,
a sophomore music industry major from Hot Springs National Park, Ark.; Clifton; and
McCaffrey. On tuba: Randall Jacan Earnest, a freshman music education major from Benton,
Ark.; Nevada Mills, instructor of music and assistant director of bands; and Tyler
Sanders, a junior music industry major from Arkadelphia, Ark.
