Dr. Sara Hubbard, associate professor of chemistry at Ouachita Baptist University,
was elected to a three-year term as vice chair of the American Chemical Society (ACS)
Southwest Regional Meeting Executive Committee on Nov. 1. As part of this position,
Dr. Hubbard will serve on the southwest region’s Steering Committee and the Executive
Committee.
Dr. Hubbard has been active in the Central Arkansas Local Section of ACS during the
past four years, serving as the secretary, chair-elect and chair. She currently works
to organize events and promote chemistry education as the chair of the Education and
Outreach Committee.
“I’m also excited for the opportunity to serve in a leadership role for our region,”
Dr. Hubbard said. “I love chemistry, and I love getting to work with other chemists
throughout our region and around the world.”
“It was no surprise to us that Dr. Hubbard was elected to office with the ACS,” said
Dr. Tim Knight, dean of the Patterson School of Natural Sciences. “Her enthusiasm
for chemistry education is contagious, and she is such an encouraging individual. Sara
represents Ouachita and her discipline well.”
Dr. Hubbard has taught at Ouachita since 2009. In 2013, she was named “Most Valuable
Professor” by Ouachita’s Carl Goodson Honors Program, and in 2015 was named Volunteer
of the Year by the Central Arkansas Local Section of ACS.
ACS is a federally chartered program that advances and advocates the study of chemistry
and its related careers nationally and globally. The Southwest Regional Meeting Executive
Committee serves the ACS members in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and part of New Mexico,
hosting regional scientific meetings and networking opportunities.
