The Ouachita Baptist University Department of Language and Literature will host alumna Jessica Lamb to speak on campus about her career in the publishing industry. She will speak at its “Think Odd, It’s Friday” lunch meeting. The event, co-sponsored by Ouachita’s Pruet School of Christian Studies, will be held Friday, March 9, at noon in the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room and is open to the public.

“‘Think Odd, It’s Friday’ is where the department gathers on every odd Friday for a lunch meeting. Guest speakers will come and talk, or a student or faculty member will present,” said Dr. Doug Sonheim, holder of the Clarence and Bennie Sue Anthony Chair of Bible and Humanities and chair of the Department of Language and Literature. “We have had a wide range of topics, from Professor Johnny Wink talking about the word ‘supine’ to recruiters from a school in China talking about teaching English at their grade school. On March 9, Jessica Lamb will talk to students about her career path.”

Lamb graduated from Ouachita in 2013 with an English major and went on to attend Denver Seminary. In 2014, she earned a certificate from the University of Denver Publishing Institute and pursued a career in book publishing and editing. She worked in Colorado at WaterBrook Multnomah Publishers, a division of Penguin Random House, as a publicity assistant and later as an associate publicist. Now, Lamb works as the managing editor of She Reads Truth in Nashville, Tenn.

“Ouachita’s mission is to send students out into the world to engage with the world and find meaningful work,” said Dr. Sonheim. “Part of our efforts at ‘Think Odd, It’s Friday’ is to help our students hear stories of graduates who find their career path. It’s a chance for students to develop community and learn something new about the world.”

Lamb also will lead a workshop at 3 p.m. that day in Lile Hall 200 for students with an interest in publishing and editing.
