Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host saxophonist Dr. Andy Peeks in concert on Thursday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The recital, which is part of Ouachita’s Guest Artist Series, is free and open to the public.

A Ouachita alumnus, Peeks currently serves as instructor of music at Southern Arkansas University, where he teaches saxophone, flute, music appreciation and the history of rock music. He also is the director of SAU’s Jazz Ensembles.
“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring Dr. Andy Peeks back to Ouachita’s campus to present a master class and guest artist recital,” said Dr. Caroline Taylor, Ouachita professor of music.

Peeks earned his bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education at Ouachita in 2001. After teaching public school band for six years, he completed his Master of Music degree in saxophone performance at the University of Wyoming, where he studied with Jennifer and Scott Turpen. Peeks earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance with a minor in wind band conducting from the University of Georgia in 2017.

The program for the evening includes: “Mother and Child” by William Grant Still and transposed by Peeks; “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Mark Hayes; “Blessed Assurance” by Franny Crosby and arranged by Renee Waters; “Great Is the Lord” by Michael W. Smith and arranged by Renee Waters; and “It Is Well with My Soul” by Philip Bliss and arranged by Ed Hogan.

The recital also will feature Michael Womack on piano. Womack currently serves as the faculty accompanist at Southern Arkansas University where he collaborates with singers and instrumentalists throughout the year in recitals, concerts and opera/musical theatre productions. Working both as a vocal coach and pianist, Womack has had the opportunity to collaborate on more than 25 opera and musical theatre productions.

Ouachita’s Guest Artist Series provides the opportunity for the university to invite musicians and artists both nationally and internationally to share their arts on campus.
