Ouachita Jazz Band to present concert Nov. 5

Ouachita Jazz Band to present concert Nov. 5.October 26, 2018 - Gracie Stover

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present its Jazz Band in concert on Monday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus. The concert will be open to the public, and admission is free.

“The audience will enjoy an evening of great music,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton, Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands at Ouachita. “The concert will consist of jazz tunes with a variety of styles including samba, swing, funk, rock and roll, ballads and more.”

At the concert, the Jazz Band will begin “Strike Up the Band” by George and Ira Gershwin and arranged by Sammy Nestico, “Chili Today, Hot Tomale” by Rick Hirsch, “Gimme Samba Dat!” by Chris Sharp and “Moon Juice” by Paul Baker. The band also will play “Toe Rings” by Robert Skiles and arranged by Paul Baker, “Listen Here” by Eddie Harris and arranged by Zachary Smith, “We, Too” by Bret Zvacek, “Q Ball” by Dan Torosian and “The Art of the Matter” by David Springfield. The concert will conclude with “Count Bubba” by Gordon Goodwin, “Fever Cooley” by John Davenport and Eddie Cooley and arranged by Roger Holmes, “Imagination Heusen” by Johnny Burke and James Van Heusen and arranged by Bob Lowden and “That Old Black Magic” by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen and arranged by Mark Taylor.

On saxophone—C.J. Slatton (alto), a senior instrumental music education major from Paragould, Ark.; Sierra Westberg (alto), a senior instrumental music education major from Arkadelphia, Ark.; Austin Clements (alto), a junior social justice studies major from North Little Rock, Ark.; Andrew Lockhart (tenor), a senior worship arts major from Rogers, Ark.; Kailee Morehart (tenor), a sophomore music major from Alexander, Ark.; Cross Brandon (tenor), a freshman instrumental music education major from Little Rock, Ark.; and Morgan Taylor (baritone), a senior music industry major from Hot Springs, Ark.

On trombone—Cayli Campbell, a senior instrumental music performance major from Texarkana, Texas; Bryson Clegg, a senior instrumental music education major from Malvern, Ark.; Andrew Coop, a junior worship arts major from Gladewater, Texas; and Allen Schroeder (bass), a sophomore worship arts major from Carrollton, Texas.

On trumpet—Blake Turner, a senior instrumental music education major from Malvern, Ark.; Justin Trostle, a junior music industry major from El Dorado, Ark.; Dalton Heinsohn, a senior instrumental music education major from Hallsville, Texas; and Jared Wainright, a freshman computer science major from El Dorado, Ark.

On rhythm—Tyler Sanders (piano), a senior music industry major from Arkadelphia, Ark.; Caleb Smith (bass), a senior instrumental music education major from Conway, Ark.; Jacob Brown (bass), a sophomore music major from Carrollton, Texas; Beaux Schmidt (guitar), a senior music industry major from Arkadelphia, Ark.; and Justin McKinney (drums), a sophomore instrumental music performance major from Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Vocals—Hannah Saunders, a senior musical theatre major from St. Paul, Ark.
