Erica Dixon, a senior graphic design major from Arkadelphia, Ark., was crowned Ouachita’s 2021 Homecoming Queen during a pregame ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 2. Dixon represented Tri Chi women’s social club, which she serves as president. She also is a member of the Tiger Steel Band and is a Kappa Chi men’s social club little sis.

“To be Ouachita Homecoming Queen means more to me than I can express,” Dixon said. “The ceremony was such a happy moment for me and my family because Ouachita has played a major role in all of our lives. My late grandfather was the dean of students for many years, my parents met here and now my mother is on staff and all my sisters have been students here. I basically grew up on campus, which made the moment that much sweeter. I am so honored and excited to represent a place that my family and I love so much.”

Dixon was presented along with other members of the Homecoming court at Cliff Harris Stadium in front of students, faculty, staff and alumni for Ouachita’s victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Dixon was crowned by Holly Shipp, Ouachita’s 2020 Homecoming Queen.

“It was so special to be crowned by Holly Shipp, because I looked up to her example in our social club and at Ouachita,” Dixon said. “I was so surprised and overcome with joy that I couldn’t stop shaking while we were trying to take photos together.”

First runner-up was Jazmyn Parker, a senior elementary education major from White Hall, Ark. Parker represented Kappa Delta Pi honor society for education, which she serves as president. She is a student assistant in the Office of the President and a member of EEE women’s social club.

Second runner-up was Emily McMaster, a senior communication sciences and disorders major from Texarkana, Ark. McMaster represented EEE women’s social club, which she served as Tiger Tunes director. She is a member of the Ouachita Student Foundation and the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association.

Third runner-up was Anna Roussel, a senior mass communications and political science double major from Searcy, Ark. Roussel represented the Ouachita Student Foundation, which she serves as president. She is co-editor for the “Ouachitonian” and a member of EEE women’s social club.

Fourth runner-up was Jael Winterholder, a senior Christian studies major from Fort Wayne, Ind. Winterholder represented the Pruet Sisterhood. She is a member of the Carl Goodson Honors Program and Tri Chi women’s social club, and serves as a student assistant in the Office of the President.

The following students were also among the top 20 Homecoming Court nominees:

Izzy Baughn, a junior mass communications major from Jonesboro, Ark., represented the Roar Run Down student-directed sports broadcast. Baughn is involved in the Ouachita Sports Digital Network, is the internal vice president of Student Senate and co-chairs the Ouachita Student Foundation special events committee.

Abigail Blankenship, a senior mass communications major from Little Rock, Ark., represented the Photography Lab, which she serves as editor. Blankenship is a member of EEE women’s social club and the Tiger Serve Day Leadership Team.

 

Madison Darr, a junior mass communications major from Springdale, Ark., represented Gridiron Girls. Darr is a member of EEE women’s social club and is external vice president of Student Senate.

 

Caroline Derby, a junior mass communications and political science double major from Arkadelphia, Ark., represented the Ouachita News Show. Derby serves as secretary of Student Senate, vice president of the Ouachita Student Foundation and is Miss Ouachita Baptist University.

 

Gracen Goudy, a senior mass communications major from Bryant, Ark., represented the “Ouachitonian” yearbook. Goudy is a member of the Ouachita Student Foundation, president of EEE women’s social club and co-editor of the “Ouachitonian.”

 

Cloe Humphry, a senior worship arts major from Benton, Ark., represented the Ouachita Singers. In addition to her involvement in Ouachita Singers choral ensemble, Humphry is president of Ouachita Worship and is a Campus Ministries life group leader.

 

Katherine Loving, a senior communication sciences and disorders major from Richardson, Texas, represented Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club. Loving is a member of Tri Chi women’s social club and the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association.

 

Molly Maddox, a senior communication sciences and disorders major from Jonesboro, Ark., represented the senior class. Maddox is a member of the Ouachita Student Foundation, Student Senate and EEE women’s social club.

 

Madison McGhee, a senior mass communications and political science double major from Alma, Ark., represented Student Senate, which she serves as president. McGhee is a member of EEE women’s social club and philanthropy chair for the Ouachita Student Foundation.

Abbie Moix, a sophomore elementary education major from Choctaw, Okla., represented the sophomore class. Moix is a member of EEE women’s social club and Gridiron Girls and is a Rho Sig men’s social club sweetheart.

Sara Patterson, a senior Christian studies major from Wylie, Texas, represented “The Signal” student newspaper, which she serves as editor. Patterson is a member of Tri Chi women’s social club, the Carl Goodson Honors Program and the Pruet Sisterhood.

 

Kinsey Potts, a senior musical theatre major from Wylie, Texas, represented Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society, which she serves as chapter president. Potts is a member of Tri Chi women’s social club.

Sarah Spakes, a junior political science and public history double major from Benton, Ark., represented College Republicans. Spakes is a member of Gamma Phi women’s social club, Ouachita Student Foundation and is a resident assistant.

 

Maria Urbina, a junior nutrition and dietetics major from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, represented the Student Dietetic Association. Urbina is a member of Tri Chi women’s social club and the International Club and is an assistant resident director for Georgia Hickingbotham Hall.

 

Vanessa Vives, a junior elementary education major from Bogota, Colombia, represented Campus Ministries. Vives is a member of the Carl Goodson Honors Program, the International Club and Tri Chi women’s social club.
