Ouachita Baptist University’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family & Community held its 53rd Tiger Serve Day on Saturday, Sept. 23. More than 800 Ouachita students, faculty and staff completed 83 projects at area homes, non-profits, churches and designated trash pickup sites across Arkadelphia and DeGray Lake.

“Tiger Serve Day is a wonderful opportunity for our campus to connect with the community and love them well,” said Duvall. “I am so proud to be part of a university that places such a huge value on service.”

Volunteers gathered at 8:30 a.m. at the Elrod Center to prepare for the day of service.

“Through the Elrod Center, we are giving Ouachita volunteers unique opportunities to serve their neighbors,” Duvall said. “Our goal is that this life of service that begins at Ouachita will continue long after graduation.”

“Tiger Serve Day is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Leigh Anne McKinney, Elrod Center associate director. “I am always encouraged by watching so many of our students, faculty and staff head out into our community to be helpful to others. Our theme ‘Be Present’ has been a great reminder to stop and really engage with those we have the chance to interact with and serve.”

Cabb Batson, a senior biology major from Arkadelphia, Ark., was among the Tiger Serve Day leadership team members who expressed appreciation for all who participated.

“Our leadership team has put in so many hours since coming back to school this fall. We have several new members, and some returners as well. I am so proud of their work,” Batson said. “This year was exceptional as we kicked off Homecoming and Family Week, so I was very encouraged by all the effort put in by this campus.”

“Tiger Serve Day has always been an awesome opportunity to humbly serve God and his people,” said Tanner Roberts, a junior Christian studies/Biblical studies & theology and Christian studies/philosophy double major from Hot Springs, Ark. “Not only do we get to meet and reach those who are within our own community, we honor God in loving Him and His people through our service.”
