5 Signs you know it's finals week
January 01, 2020
It’s that time of year again. The time when everyone is either completely and totally exhausted, full of energy and wanting to go on late night trips to Waffle House, jump off “the rock” or go to as many small concerts in a 60-mile radius as possible or all of the above. School is winding down and seniors are preparing for their next phases of life. Here are just a few signs that students at Ouachita might know its finals week.
1. The seniors are suddenly crying at everything.
The last Refuge, the last dance, the last Waffle House trip, the last coffeehouse and literally everything in between. The seniors are all so emotional and even the underclassmen are starting to realize that their favorite seniors won’t be around for much longer. Cue “My Heart Will Go On.”
2. Late night spontaneous adventures.
Something happens the weekend before finals and all of a sudden, everyone decides they want to be as spontaneous and adventurous as possible. For some, this could mean taking an impromptu trip to Hot Springs or Little Rock or for some, this could just mean taking a break from studying and going to the lake. Either way, no matter to what degree, finals week sparks a sense of “last chance” in people’s minds and they are determined to cram as many memories as possible into one week.
3. The “Oh no, I still have so much to pay for” freak out.
Maybe this is just me, but as the end of school is approaching, I’m suddenly remembering everything I still have yet to pay for. Club dues, t-shirts, that one time your friend payed for your Waffle House because you spent all your money on coffee after you had already drained all of your chick money. Yeah, all that debt. And we still have to pay tuition. Send prayers.
4. New friends.
For some reason, new friendships (or “more than friendships”) suddenly emerge at the end of the year and everyone is left wondering, “why couldn’t I have met this person sooner?” There’s not much else to say about this except for the fact that it’s pretty awesome to get to know new people, but pretty sad to leave them for a whole three months. Cue “My Heart Will Go On” again.
5. All the nostalgia.
As the seniors are transitioning into their new lives as real adults, so many memories
are shared and so many feelings are felt. It’s a bittersweet time to see your friends
grow up and leave, but its also so exciting because you remember that new freshmen
are entering the picture in the fall and you’ll get to build on all of those memories
and great times with people you don’t even know yet. Finals are hard, but ultimately,
for most, finals week can be the most fun week of the year. So, spend time with your
friends this week, study and just remember it’s all going to be okay.
