Directing the winning show: Tiger Tunes 2016

January 01, 2020

I first saw Tiger Tunes in 2012 during my senior year of high school, and I immediately fell in love with it. Then after participating in a show as a freshman, I knew I wanted to be a director. This year, I had the exciting experience of being a director for the winning Tiger Tunes show, “Kappa Chi Express.”

Long before the practices even started, our team of directors began to work on the show. The process was more difficult than I expected but still so much fun. As the fall semester came, our guys were getting more and more anxious to see what we had put together for the show.

Kappa Chi has always done well in Tiger Tunes. As directors, we were being held to that standard, which was stressful at times – but mainly motivating. As practices began, I was stunned to see how quickly the Kappas were putting the show together and how eager they were to keep learning. They consistently came to practice ready to work hard, but excited to have some fun with it as well. Despite the long hours and busy schedules they never failed to put forth their best for the show. We loved to watch our friends take our show and make it their own. All our hard work was paying off!

By the time dress rehearsal came, we knew we were ready for our show to hit the stage; with each performance our show only got better. As the Homecoming weekend continued, it was awesome to watch everyone in Tunes have fun and be proud of their own shows – rightfully so, because Tiger Tunes was full of incredible performances from across campus!

Looking back, I knew our show was good but I never expected to win. I’ll admit there were times I was really concerned if we would place or not, but I was continuously reminded that Tiger Tunes is not about what place you get or who has the “best” show. It is the opportunity for Ouachita to demonstrate how incredibly talented our students are while raising scholarship money for students to continue experience these fantastic parts of our university.

Winning was definitely a highlight, but more importantly, I got to see the guys in my club build closer relationships while we rallied together with a common goal of doing the best we could with our show. Tiger Tunes will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m so thankful for the memories I came away with.
