The Hickingbotham School invests in annual experiences: A senior reflects
January 01, 2020
The past four years have been such an incredible time learning and growing within
the Hickingbotham School of Business. My time spent both in and outside of the classroom
has helped shaped me into the student I am today, rapidly approaching the real world
come May 13.
Each year, Mr. Frank Hickingbotham shows his continued support of business students
learning beyond the classroom by sponsoring a trip for each freshman, sophomore, junior
and senior class.
Freshman year we ventured to Memphis, Tenn., to tour Graceland, Gibson Guitar, St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Vining Sparks and a TV and radio recording studio.
We ended the trip with a fun night at a Memphis Riverkings hockey game; watching hockey
for the first time was a trip in itself!
As sophomores, we learned more about the great state of Arkansas and spent a few days in the northwest part of the state. Our trip to Fayetteville, Bentonville and the surrounding area included tours of Tyson, J.B. Hunt, Red Dot, My Brother’s Salsa, the Walmart museum and a night of relaxation at a Naturals baseball game
Junior year was a day trip to Little Rock. Though it may not seem like much could happen in our small capital, the junior trip was a special learning experience. Our day began by traveling to the Westrock Coffee warehouse in North Little Rock. It was incredible to see the production path of our very own Dr. Jack’s coffee at the time. We then traveled downtown to the Capital Hotel for lunch. We were able to sit amongst Hickingbotham School of Business Board Members and network throughout the entire meal. We ended our time in Little Rock at Dassault Falcon Jet. This was probably one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. We were able to see behind the scenes of the production of several different private aircrafts and tour hangars scattered throughout a secluded area at the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport.
Finally, the all-expenses-paid trips ended just a few weeks ago as myself and 34 of my fellow business major friends traveled to St. Louis, Mo. Our trip consisted of a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank, the Boeing Museum on the grounds of the St. Louis International Airport, Enterprise, the Fox Theater, a riverboat dinner cruise and watching the Brewers crush the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Each trip was such an incredible experience that allowed me to network or learn something
I never knew before. Not many people will ever have the chance to see and hear all
of the things I have the past four years on these trips. I am so thankful for the
opportunity I have been given in the HSB without ever having to worry about how I
would get there or how much it would cost. Mr. Hickingbotham has played such an intricate
part in making my time at Ouachita a time I will cherish for the rest of my life.
