Planning Christian Focus Week to unite campus as the body of Christ

January 01, 2020

Christian Focus Week has always been a highlight of my year. I was invited to join the leadership team when I was a freshman. I had no idea what it was about but was excited from the start because of all the amazing things I had heard about the week. I looked up to the seniors who were in charge (a.k.a. thought they were the coolest people ever).

For our first meeting we met at Kate Roden's apartment for dinner and cookies. She went through the whole entire schedule for the week and how we were going to go about planning it. Just by the way she described the special events and morning sessions, I could tell that there really was something more to this week than a bunch of events.

After Christian Focus Week that year, I understood why people would freak out about pancakes and skipping morning classes. It was because Jesus was in it all. Everything that is planned for Christian Focus Week is planned to point to our sweet Savior, to bring Him glory, to learn more about Him and grow closer to Him. As the years have quickly gone by, it has been so neat to see God work through each Christian Focus Week in each specific topic of each year.

One thing that I love about this special week on campus is the unity. During each morning session, breakout or night event, I would always meet somebody new that I had never even seen on campus before. The week provides many convenient opportunities for our campus to gather together in worship. As we gather, through the truth of Jesus Christ we are unified as the body of Christ. This is the deepest way that we can possibly experience unification as students.

I love every night of the event but I confess, I do have a favorite. Since freshman year I have had the privilege to specifically be a part of and head up Arts and Worship Coffeehouse on Monday night. During this night of worship, we provide an opportunity to respond to God in worship in a unique way. Our goal is to create a reverent atmosphere for people to worship God through painting. We have all different colors of paint, different kinds of paintbrushes and lots of cardboard. I still have in my possession a painting from CFW 2014 that quotes a special verse to my heart.

I am so excited to see how God reminds us this coming week how amazing it is to be made IN HIS IMAGE.
