Survive finals with Christmas festivities
January 01, 2020
People are decking the halls and rocking around the tree. For college students though,
this season brings mixed feelings. Christmas break means making it through finals
week. Finals can be stressful and put a damper on the Christmas mood. Don’t forget
to take a break from your studies and participate in the Christmas season.
1. Garvan Gardens Holiday Lights
Garvan Woodland Gardens transforms its botanical garden into a winter wonderland every
year with thousands of Christmas lights. The light display has become a popular attraction
during the holiday season for Hot Springs. The display is open nightly through Dec.
31 from 5-9 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the door or online here. Complimentary hot chocolate is also offered.
2. Christmas Caroling
What better way to spread Christmas cheer than singing loud for all to hear? Get a
group of friends together, wear ugly Christmas sweaters and festive hats and go sing
to people in the community. People will love hearing the classics like Rudolph or
Silent Night.
3. Christmas Movie Marathon
Cuddle up in your dorm room with your closest friends and watch the top Christmas
movies. A few of my favorites are “Home Alone,” “Scrooge,” “The Santa Clause,” “Elf,”
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
4. Ice Skating
Ice skating is a classic winter activity. Arkansas is a little too warm for an outdoor
skating rink, but the Arkansas Skatium in Little Rock provides a year-round indoor
option. Basic admission is $10 or $13 if you are renting skates. Special deals are
also offered including Thursday night Cheap Skate where admission and skate rental
are $7. Roller skating is also offered. For more information, visit the Arkansas Skatium
website here.
5. Christmas Party
Get your friends together for a party. Crank up the music and give a prize for the
ugliest sweater. Exchange gifts, have fun games and decorate cookies. This is a chance
to have one last party before the semester ends.
6. Send Christmas Cards
Everyone likes receiving snail mail. Send out Christmas cards to your friends or encouragement
cards that will get them through finals week. Buy them or make them, your friends
will really appreciate them.
