Ouachita to host Small Works on Paper exhibit through Oct. 25

small works Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Adams Department of Art and Design is hosting a juried visual art exhibition coordinated by the Arkansas Arts Council through Friday, Oct. 25. The Small Works on Paper exhibit, which will be displayed in the Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery on the first and second floor of Moses-Provine Hall, is free and open to the public.

Now in its 33rd year, Small Works on Paper showcases artwork no larger than 18 inches by 24 inches in dimension. Artwork is created by members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, a membership and online platform for Arkansas artists to promote their artwork, and a maximum of 40 works are selected by an out-of-state juror for the exhibition. The 2019 exhibition features 37 artists, both new and established, from every region in Arkansas.

"The Small Works on Paper exhibition is always such a great look into the variety of art being made and materials being used by Arkansas artists of all backgrounds,” said Carey Roberson, Ouachita associate professor of Art and Design. “There are so many fantastic artists in this exhibition. Many any of them traditionally work much larger in scale, so it is refreshing to see how they translate their ideas to the much smaller proportions without losing their style or impact.”

This year’s entries were judged by Robin Dru Germany, professor of photography and associate director of the School of Art at Texas Tech University. Germany reviewed 354 image submissions to select the 39 works displayed in the exhibit.

The exhibition has been displayed at seven Arkansas universities or institutions prior to visiting Ouachita. The University of Arkansas at Hope will be the final tour destination for the traveling exhibition.

The Arkansas Arts Council advances and empowers the arts by providing services and funding for programming that encourages and assists literary, performing and visual artists in achieving standards of professional excellence. The Arkansas Artist Registry is open to all Arkansas artists ages 18 and above.

Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, and admission is free. For more information, contact Carey Roberson at robersoncw@obu.edu or (501) 245-4655.
