Ouachita's Wind Ensemble to present spring concert March 9
March 04, 2020 - Michael Burge
Ouachita Baptist University’s Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert on Monday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus. The concert is free and open to the public.
“The students in the Wind Ensemble work very hard to present outstanding performances,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton, Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands. “It is great to make music with my friends. We have a great time preparing the music.”
The Wind Ensemble will begin the concert with “The Hounds of Spring” by Alfred Reed, followed by “Two Lane Blacktop” by James M. David and “Concerto for Horn op. 8” by Franz Strauss and arranged by Tim Laughlin; Holli Barger, winner of the 2019 W. Francis and Mary McBeth Concerto Competition, also will perform for the concerto. Next, the ensemble will perform “Symphony V: Elements” by Julie Giroux and “The Gum-Suckers March” by Percy Aldridge Grainger and arranged by Mark Rogers. The concert will conclude with “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez Navarro and arranged by Oliver Nickel.
This concert also will be livestreamed at http://www.obu.edu/band. For more information, contact Dr. Craig Hamilton at [email protected] or (870) 245-5137.
