Crutcher, visiting assistant professor of music at Ouachita, said she will perform a selection of sacred and spiritual songs – some obscure, some familiar – by some of the country’s most influential African American composers and arrangers.

The program includes “O Redeemed” by Uzee Brown Jr., as well as Brown’s arrangements of traditional hymns “Fix Me Jesus” and “There are Angels Hov’rin’ Roun’”; “Over Yonder,” “Leanin’ On Dat Lamb” and “Po’ Mo’ner Got a Home at Las,” traditional hymns arranged by Hall Johnson; “Weepin’ Mary,” “Go Down Moses” and “Deep River,” traditional hymns arranged by Henry Thacker Burleigh; “Don’t You Let Nobody Turn You Round” and “I Know the Lords Laid His Hands On Me” by Lena McLin, as well as her arrangement of “The Lord’s Prayer”; and “He Never Said a Mumbalin’ Word,” “Were You There” and “Give Me Jesus,” traditional hymns arranged by Moses Hogan.

Crutcher said, “Each selection has its own spirit and message that it is eager to express through excitement, sorrow, anger, love and joy.”

Crutcher will be joined by Ouachita collaborative pianist Kristen LaMadrid.
