Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present Dr. Margaret Garrett, Kristin Grant, Dr. Ouida Keck and Heather Scott in a faculty recital on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Garrett, Scott and Keck will open the recital with Beethoven’s “Come Draw We Round a Cheerful Ring” and “On the Massacre of Glencoe.” They will be joined by Grant to perform Bach’s “Bete aber auf dabei.”

Garrett and Keck will collaborate to present Handel’s “Tornami a vagheggiar,” and then Scott will join Keck to present Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan.”

Also included in the recital will be Fauré’s “Après un rêve,” performed by Keck and Scott, Strauss’ “Ich wollt’ ein Sträußlein binden” and “Als mir dein Leid erklang,” performed by Garrett and Keck, Piazzolla’s “Le Grand Tango,” performed by Keck and Scott and Lobos’ “Aria” from Bachianas Brasileiras, performed by Garrett, Keck and Scott.

Garrett, Keck and Scott will then perform Previn’s “Vocalise,” and Garrett and Keck will conclude the recital with Schmidt’s “Something has Happened” and Shire’s “Baby, Baby, Baby.”

She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Voice Performance degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Music in Voice Performance degree from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts.

“I love that singing provides me with and outlet to express emotions that mere words can’t express,” Garrett said. “I also love the challenge of learning new music and the partnership of working with other musicians.” Garrett said she has been studying voice since the age of 13.

Dr. Ouida Keck, professor of music at Ouachita, teaches applied piano, piano pedagogy and piano ensemble. She has been at Ouachita for 25 years. She earned a Bachelors of Music degree in Piano Performance degree from Ouachita, a Masters of Music in Piano Performance degree from the University of Arkansas and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa. Keck, an Arkadelphia native, said she enjoys “sharing beautiful and meaningful music with others and collaborating with my colleagues.”

Heather Scott is an adjunct instructor in music at Ouachita and a cellist in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. She and her husband, Dr. Sean Scott, assistant professor of history, joined the Ouachita faculty in 2008.
