Gemma Guiomard’s “Perception” senior art exhibit to open Feb. 24
February 13, 2014 - McKenzie Cranford
Ouachita Baptist University will host Gemma Guiomard’s senior art exhibit, “Perception,”
in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s Hammons Art Gallery from Feb. 24 to March 7. The exhibit
is free and open to the public.
After months of pouring hard work into this project, the exhibit presents Guiomard
with the opportunity to share her work with the community.
A reception will be held on Feb. 25. from 7-8:30 p.m. “It’s a formal time to come
to the gallery, discuss the work and celebrate,” said Guiomard, a senior studio art
and musical theatre major from Desoto, Texas.
Unlike many other senior exhibits that feature a student’s work from his or her entire
college career, most of the work that Guiomard will present was created specifically
for this show.
Describing the concept behind her exhibit, which includes mostly oil paintings and
collage work, Guiomard explained, “Each piece is about a person I love and my interpretation
of who they are. Most are not traditional portraits despite the fact that they are
my image of specific people.
“It was a difficult task because I wanted to be honest in my work,” added Guiomard,
citing her exhibit preparations as both challenging and fun.
Guiomard said she views creating art as “a natural and inescapable product of human
nature.” Through this exhibit, she has the opportunity to reveal insight into the
way she sees the world.
Regular gallery hours for the exhibit are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The
exhibit is also available during evenings when other School of Fine Arts events are
held in Mabee Fine Arts Center. For more information, contact the School of Fine Arts
at (870) 245-5129.
