Ouachita Handbell Ringers concert set for April 8
March 31, 2014 - Jessica Stewart
The Handbell Ringers concert has been cancelled due to illness.
Ouachita Baptist University’s Handbell Ringers will present their spring Ringers in the Round concert in the McClellan Hall Rotunda on Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
“It is always exciting to see how a group of people gather at the beginning of the semester, some of whom have experienced ringing handbells and some not,” said Dr. Rob Hewell, professor of music and director of OBU’s worship studies program. All students who can read music are eligible to sign up for Handbell Ringers.
“They quickly come together as an ensemble, and I always enjoy getting to introduce the ringers as well as the campus to this very beautiful and challenging musical art,” Hewell explained.
The concert will include Michele Mason’s arrangement of “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg, Jonathan Roth’s arrangement of “Villano” by Gasper Sanz, “Make a Joyful Noise” by Kevin McChesney, Michele Mason’s arrangement of “Pascal meditation on ‘Ah Holy Jesus’” by Johann Cruger and “New Life” by Kevin McChesney.
There are five student ringers this semester: Tori Clifton, a freshman kinesiology and leisure studies major from Henderson, Texas; Ashton Edwards, a senior graphic design major from Fordyce, Ark.; David Headrick, a sophomore worship ministry major from Farmington, Ark.; Blake Johnson, a junior music major from Camden, Ark.; and Christina Moon, a junior worship arts major from Carrollton, Texas.
