Morgan Chunn and Maria Falcon to present senior voice recital on Oct. 31
October 23, 2014 - McKenzie Cranford
Ouachita Baptist University seniors Morgan Chunn and Maria Falcon will present their
senior recital on Friday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. in Mabee Fine Art Center’s McBeth Recital
Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
“I am most excited for the opportunity to showcase what I have learned in the four
years I have been here at Ouachita,” said Falcon, a choral music education major from
Bentonville, Ark.
Echoing that perspective, Chunn, a choral education major from Hot Springs, Ark.,
said, “This recital signifies my triumph over stage fright. I remember crying the
morning before my first performance freshman year. Over time, I have become more comfortable
on stage, and this recital signifies everything that I’ve learned about music and
what it means to be a musician.”
“Getting to do this recital with my best friend Morgan Chunn is the coolest thing
about it,” Falcon added. “I love that we are able to add our own flair and thought
and emotions to what we do.”

The seniors will perform a duet of Jacques Offenbach’s “Barcarolle” from Les Contes d’Hoffmann in the middle of the recital.
Prior to the duet, Falcon will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s “Saper vorreste” from Un Ballo in Maschera, Hugo Wolf’s “Das Verlassene Magdlein,” Georges Hue’s “A des oiseaux,” Georges Bizet’s
“Vieille Chanson,” Giacomo Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi, Jay Althouse’s arrangement of “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” and Jason Robert
Brown’s “The Flagmaker” from Songs for a New World.
Follwing the duet, Chunn’s performance will include: Henry Purcell’s “Strike the Viol”;
Gioachino Rossini’s “Una voce poco fa” from II Barbiere di Siviglia; Johannes Brahms’ “Geistliches Wiegenlied” as well as “Meine Liebe ist Grun” from
Two Songs, Opus 91; Benjamin Britten’s “The Highland Balou” from A Charm of Lullabies; and William Bolcom’s “Amor” from Cabaret Songs.
Accompanying Chunn and Falcon on piano throughout the recital will be Susan Monroe
and Phyllis Walker. Chelsea Villanueva, a senior instrumental performance major from
Bentonville, Ark., will assist Falcon on alto saxophone for “Nobody Knows the Trouble
I’ve Seen,” and Dr. Heather Thayer, assistant professor of music, will assist Chunn
on viola for “Geistliches Wiegenlied.”
