Ouachita to host senior Aly Smith’s art exhibit, “Pages,” March 2-17

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host Aly Smith’s senior art
exhibit, “Pages,” in the second floor of Moses-Provine Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams
Gallery March 2-17. The exhibit is free and open to the public. A reception with the
artist will be held in the gallery at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 12.
“My exhibit is inspired by the different phases of my time in the Rosemary Adams Department
of Visual Art,” said Smith, a senior mass communications and graphic design double
major from Sherwood, Ark. “I added my graphic design degree during my sophomore year
with no prior traditional art experience, so learning so many things so quickly has
definitely provided some interesting stories.”
Explaining her decision to add her graphic design major, Smith said, “I knew I wanted
to work in the magazine industry and that it was the direction God was calling me
in. I love the industry because it combines my two passions, storytelling through
written word and excellent visual design, which is what I want to achieve through
my exhibit.
“I want to showcase the different phases or ‘pages’ of my story on the walls of the
gallery,” Smith explained. “As you flip through these pages you will see how my style
as an artist has developed and changed. I hope that this exhibit gives viewers a glimpse
into the life-changing three years I have spent in the art department and how it has
helped me grow not only as an artist but also as a person.”
Regular gallery hours for the exhibit are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For
more information, contact the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
