Ouachita Baptist University alumni John Ashburn and Elyse Senteney will return to
Arkadelphia on Wednesday, March 11, to perform a guest recital in Ouachita’s Mabee
Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to
the public.
“I am very proud of John and Elyse. They are wonderful musicians and performers, and
I’m excited they are presenting a ‘homecoming concert’ for us,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton,
OBU’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music, director of bands and coordinator of
instrumental studies. “Their recital will be wonderful and a must see and hear for
everyone who enjoys great music.”
Ashburn and Senteney are both current candidates for Master of Music degrees from
Baylor University and perform regularly with the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, Waco Symphony
Orchestra and Baylor Wind Ensemble.
A 2011 Ouachita graduate, Ashburn is pursuing a degree in saxophone performance from
Baylor; in the fall, he will study at Kansas State University with Anna Marie Wytko
in the pursuit of a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Ouachita, where he studied saxophone
with Dr. Caroline Taylor.
Senteney is pursuing a degree in flute performance at Baylor, where she also performs
with and conducts the Baylor Flute Ensemble. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education
degree from Ouachita in 2013, where she studied flute with Kristin Grant. Senteney
has directed and taught music students of all ages in a variety of forms including
clinics, large ensembles, chamber groups, methods classes and private lessons.
