October 28, 2015 - Ali Robinson

AKOuachita Baptist University’s Pruet School of Christian Studies will host Dr. Andreas Köstenberger, a New Testament scholar, in a guest lecture on Monday, Nov. 9. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in Berry Chapel and is free and open to the public.

In addition to the lecture on Monday, Köstenberger will speak in several Christian studies classes as well as the university’s chapel service on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Chapel is open to the public and will be held in Jones Performing Arts Center at 10 a.m.

“We try to bring in prominent Christian scholars every semester to address our majors and speak in chapel,” said Dr. Scott Duvall, J.C. and Mae Fuller Professor of Biblical Studies. “Dr. Köstenberger is a first-rate New Testament scholar and it’s always good to get to know nationally prominent Christian scholars.”

Köstenberger will center his lecture around the idea of “excellence in scholarship as a Christian,” a topic he focuses on in his book, Excellence: The Character of God and the Pursuit of Scholarly Virtue.

Duvall said those “who are Christians and want to pursue excellence in scholarship as an act of worship would enjoy his talk and benefit from it.”

Köstenberger is a senior research professor of New Testament and biblical theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. He is the founder and president of Biblical Foundations™, an organization devoted to encouraging a return to the biblical foundations in the home, the church and society. He earned his Ph.D. in New Testament and biblical studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; his master’s degree in cross-cultural studies, New Testament and counseling from Columbia Biblical Seminary; and his master’s and doctorate in social and economic sciences from Vienna University of Economics.

Köstenberger has authored, co-authored, translated and edited more than 20 books and serves as editor of the journal of the Evangelical Theological Society. Some of his works have been translated into more than five languages. His work has been recognized through the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association’s Gold Medallion Awards, and he was selected as a five-year visiting fellow at St. Edmund’s College in Cambridge, England. He also has been a featured speaker at several marriage conferences, universities, seminaries and radio interviews.
