Ouachita Wind Ensemble to present spring concert on March 7

- Sarah DavisOuachita Baptist University’s Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert on Tuesday,
March 7. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center on
the Ouachita campus. It is free and open to the public.
“The Wind Ensemble is the premier instrumental ensemble at OBU and the concert will
feature outstanding wind and percussion music,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s
Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands.
The concert will begin with Morton Gould’s “Ballad for Band.” Jason Potts, a senior
intrumental performance major from Springdale, Ark., will be the featured trombone
soloist in “Colors” by Bert Appermont, which is a four movement work: “Yellow” focuses
on inspiration, “Red” focuses on fury, “Blue” focuses on dreams and “Green” focuses
on hope. “Blow, Eastern Winds” by Joseph Spaniola, “Al Fresco” by Karel Husa and “Four
Scottish Dances” by Malcom Arnold also will be performed.
“Music is just a way to communicate emotions and feelings without saying any words,
and being able to share that with our audiences is the most impactful for me,” said
Ashley Lovely, a junior music education major from Van Alstyne, Texas. Lovely plays
clarinet in the Wind Ensemble.
“Also, being under the direction of Dr. Hamilton is such an incredible aspect of being
in Wind Ensemble,” she added. “I've learned so much by watching him teach and share
his love for music with us.”
