Ouachita Baptist University will host Courtney Kelley and Emily Weeden in their senior recital Friday, April 21, at 11 a.m. The recital, which will be held in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus, is free and open to the public.

Kelley is a senior choral education major from Boerne, Texas. She is a student of Dr. Margaret Garrett, associate professor of music, and Dr. Patricia Vigil, adjunct instructor of music.

Kelley will perform Henry Purcell’s “If Music Be the Food of Love,” Wolfgang A. Mozart’s “Voi che sapete” and “Non so piu cosa son” from Le Nozze Di Figaro and Alma Schindler Mahler’s “Laue Sommernach.” She will also will perform Reynaldo Hahn’s “A Chloris,” Cole Porter’s “Begin the Beguine” from Jubilee, Benjamin Britten’s “Oliver Cromwell” and Richard Hundley’s “Come Ready and See Me.”

“I am excited to finally have a finished product of my time studying voice here at Ouachita,” Kelley said. “I will be the third person in my family to perform a senior recital and receive a degree in music. Being able to present this recital to my family, friends and peers will mean I am one step closer to student teaching in the fall semester, and I cannot wait.”

Weeden, a senior worship arts major from Rogers, Ark., also is a student of Garrett and Vigil. She is a member of Alpha Chi national college honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda national honor society for music and Theta Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies and theology.

Weeden’s performances will include Wolfgang A. Mozart’s “In uomini, in soldati” from Cosi Fan Tutti, Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Bist du bei mir” and Johannes Brahms’ “Vergebliches Ständchen.” She also will perform Gustav Mahler’s “Frühlingsmorgen,” Jules Massenet’s “Si tu veux, Mignonne,” Charles Goblnod’s “O Divine Redeemer,” Lori Laitman’s “If I…,” Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” and S.A. Martin’s “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.”

“I’m excited to celebrate all that I’ve learned over my four years from amazing voice teachers. I love how they have not only taught me so much about music but also life,” Weeden said. “I hope to do my voice teacher and family proud, to do my best and to have fun.”
