Ouachita’s Emily Johnson to perform sophomore recital Dec. 8

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Emily Johnson in her sophomore
recital on Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. The recital, which is free and open to the public,
will be held in McBeth Recital Hall in Ouachita’s Mabee Fine Arts Center.
Johnson, a musical theatre major from Benton, Ark., earned first place in the lower
college musical theatre women division at the southern region of National Association
of Teachers of Singing competition. She has performed in Ouachita shows including
Fiddler on the Roof, Erica and I and the Secret Garden.
Johnson will perform Richard Rogers’s “I Have Confidence” from The Sound of Music, Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick’s “I Love the Way” from Something Rotten and Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s “Pretty Funny” from Dog Fight. A dramatic presentation of Act 2, Scene 7 of Neil Simon’s Chapter Two also will be included.
Dr. Margaret Garrett, associate professor of music, and Drew Hampton, assistant professor
of theatre arts, are Johnson’s instructors. Phyllis Walker will be the accompanist
for the recital. Dylan Blackwood, a sophomore musical theatre major from Walnut Ridge,
Ark., will assist Johnson.
