Scott to present senior recital at Ouachita October 23

October 19, 2017 - Tiffany Lee

SSOuachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Scotty Scott in his senior recital on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held in McBeth Recital Hall.

Scott, a senior musical theatre major from Bentonville, Ark., has been a regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) audition finalist and a four-time state NATS finalist. He also has been a two-time nominee for the Irene Ryan Acting Competition as well as a Musical Theatre Initiative award nominee at the Region 6 Kennedy Center-American College Theatre Festival.

“I've been very blessed to have had a lot of opportunity to perform here at OBU,” Scott said. “The professors here are always incredible, and they care so much about the growth of the students. Without my professors, I wouldn’t have had the learning experiences that I have had, and I certainly wouldn't be where I am as a performer.”

Scott will begin his recital with Stephen Sondheim’s “Opening Doors” from Merrily We Roll Along, followed by Bock and Harnick’s “Tonight at Eight” from She Loves Me. He will then perform a selection from Greg Allen’s Too Much Light Makes the Baby Goes Blind. Scott will continue with Jeanine Tesori’s “Who I’d Be” from Shrek the Musical and the scene “November 22, 1963” from John Weidman’s Assassins. Scott will conclude the recital with his performance of Menken and Ashman’s “Mushnik & Son” from Little Shop of Horrors.

“People can expect to see my partners and myself put on a night of dynamic scenes and songs that will be sure to entertain and challenge the audience in a number of ways,” Scott said. “It is a very fun recital to perform, and my hope is that the fun that we are having onstage is infectious and that people will leave with a smile on their face and new ideas on their mind.”

Scott will be assisted by Elizabeth Griffin, a senior musical theatre major from Pittsburg, Texas, and his choreographer is Dylan Blackwood, a junior musical theatre major from Walnut Ridge, Ark.
