Ouachita Student Foundation raises record $170,000 through Tiger Tunes

2022 Tiger Tunes Awards NightNovember 18, 2022 - Addie Woods

The Ouachita Student Foundation (OSF) raised $170,000 during Tiger Tunes, surpassing their goal of $135,000 for the entire 2022-23 school year. Tiger Tunes is an annual song-and-dance production that parodies popular music as a competition among student organizations. It is held each year during the university’s Homecoming weekend.

The money was raised by five sold out shows Oct. 5-8, including a first-ever sponsorship with Two Rivers Credit Union in Arkadelphia, 170 tickets sold for the Tuesday night dress rehearsal, $10,000 in a silent auction and $15,000 in People’s Choice donations. Tiger Tunes is OSF’s flagship fundraising effort for the year as they seek to raise money for scholarships for upperclassmen seeking to remain enrolled at Ouachita despite personal hardships.

This year’s Tiger Tunes planning was headed by Izzy Baughn, a senior communications & media/strategic communications and political science double major from Jonesboro, Ark. She serves as special events director for OSF.

“It was truly a team effort, and I think that each leader and active member of the Ouachita Student Foundation deserves credit for the hard work, dedication and love they poured into this production,” Baughn said. “To know that these proceeds go straight back to students on campus is the best feeling in the world, and that is truly the ‘magic’ of Tiger Tunes.”

When student scholarships are awarded in the spring, OSF will have provided more than $2 million in scholarships since the organization began in 1974. Focused on its mission of “students helping students,” OSF mobilizes upperclassmen through committees that serve the university in student recruitment, philanthropy, and fundraising and finance, in addition to special events – which takes the lead on Tiger Tunes and Ouachita’s other annual signature event, Tiger Traks.

Ouachita will celebrate the 45th year of Tiger Tunes in Fall 2023.

“This year’s show was such a success, and every single person involved helped make it the best yet,” said Jon Merryman, director of alumni relations and OSF. “Students participating in shows, our sound, video and lighting professionals, OSF members, JPAC and Box Office crew, our partners in Facilities Management, Sodexo, Communications & Marketing – every person involved came together to create a seamless, fantastic experience for our guests.”
