Ouachita Baptist University’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family & Community held its 54th Tiger Serve Day on Saturday, April 6. More than 660 Ouachita students, staff and faculty completed 88 projects at homes, churches, non-profits and municipal buildings throughout Arkadelphia.

“Tiger Serve Day is a wonderful day for volunteers to be involved in the lives of the community residents, building relationships and lending a helpful hand,” said Judy Duvall, director of the Elrod Center. “I’m so grateful the Elrod Center can help make it happen."

Thirty students on the Tiger Serve Day Leadership Team began preparations for the day several months in advance by visiting projects and praying for volunteers and those served. On the day of the event, volunteers arrived at 8:30 a.m. at the Elrod Center to share a meal and get the tools they’d need for their project.

“It’s really fun to see everyone go out and help the community we’re a part of every day,” said Devon Hunt, a freshman Christian ministries major from Benton, Ark. “I loved seeing the thankful expression on Ms. Bell’s face after we finished her project.”

Leigh Anne McKinney, associate director of the Elrod Center, said Tiger Serve Day is one of her favorite days of the year.

“It’s such a joy to watch our students, faculty and staff serve others,” she added. “It’s special to see the Ouachita community serve the wonderful Arkadelphia community.”

Abigail Powers, a senior communications sciences & disorders major from Nacogdoches, Texas, was a member of the leadership team that served behind the scenes throughout the semester.

“I’m so grateful for the ways Ouachita exemplifies tangibly what it looks like to be the hands and feet of Jesus,” said Powers. “Seeing more than 600 members of the campus come together to serve the community and glorify the Lord always encourages my faith and strengthens my confidence in the impact Ouachita is making on its students and community.”
