Private Aid Sources

Below are several scholarships and grants that are not awarded by Ouachita but are available to Ouachita students. You must apply for these scholarships independently. Additionally, we have provided several scholarship search sites that you may wish to use.  While the Student Financial Services office does try to screen the scholarship sites below, OBU is not responsible for the information contained on these sites nor the validity of the scholarships.  Remember, you should never have to pay to apply for a scholarship.

The Education Training Voucher (ETV) program awards grants to current and former foster youth to  help pay for college or specialized education. ETV grants are funded by the federal government and  administered by the states. Arkansas Community Foundation manages more than 200 private scholarship funds created by individuals, families and companies that want to provide a path to higher education for generations to come. These donors determine the size and eligibility criteria for the scholarships they create, and Arkansas Community Foundation manages the scholarship process on their behalf. We accept applications for many of these scholarships each year. Applicants must be Arkansas high school seniors or Arkansas college students pursuing a career in a field of conservation with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (4.0 scale). Scholarships are available for children, step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren of current/retired employees of Arkansas. For more information and to apply go to https://www.arcounties.org/about-us/aac-scholarship/.

Scholarships are available for students from eastern Arkansas and western Tennessee who will be Freshmen or Sophomores at Ouachita. Preference to active members of a Southern Baptist Church and must have a 2.0 or higher GPA. Applications are available on the http://www.abf.org/scholarships/. The deadline to apply is February 1st of each year.

Arkansas Baptists may apply for a scholarship to attend college, seminary, or medical school if they are preparing for Southern Baptist medical missionary service. Applications are available on the following website: http://www.abf.org/scholarships/ .

This scholarship is available to students studying Foreign Language,  (whether or not it is their college major) as an undergraduate or graduate student at a college or university. The MANA Charitable Board is pleased to offer the Murray T. Harris Healthcare Scholarship for students in allied health programs in Washington and Benton Counties of Arkansas. Three scholarships are awarded each June.

 

Allied health programs include, but are not limited to radiology technology, clinical laboratory science, nursing, and respiratory therapy. The Scholarship focuses on professions within the healthcare sector that are currently underserved, to help attract qualified candidates in these fields. Arkansas Baptists may apply for this scholarship related to educational expenses for those studying in religious education and/or music in order to serve in international or home mission work of the Southern Baptist Convention.  Applications are available on the following website: http://www.abf.org/scholarships/

The Saline County Executive Association has established a $1,000 scholarship for the purpose of assisting Saline County students entering their sophmore, junior or senior years of higher education or high school senior who has earned a minimum of 15 hours concurrent college hours, has a 3.0 GPA and will be attending an Arkansas university or college. While many students dream of obtaining a college degree, other responsibilities in life sometimes become bigger priorities. This is especially true for single parents who must juggle family and work. Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) is unique to Arkansas. The A&F Scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. Go to the A&F website for more information and to apply.

AFAS provides grants to selected sons and daughters of active duty, Title 10 AGR/Reserve, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired, retired reserve and deceased Air Force members; spouses (stateside) of active duty members and Title 10 AGR/Reservists; and surviving spouses of deceased personnel for their undergraduate studies. Residents of the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle are eligible for scholarships funded through the Amarillo Area Foundation. The ACS Scholars Program awards renewable scholarships of up to $5,000 to underrepresented minority students who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields, such as environmental science, toxicology and chemical technology. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years as a soldier and statesman, including 30 years of service in the U.S. Senate.

Designed to help pre-medical and medical students with medical school application and tuition costs, respectively. The scholarship runs twice a year in spring and fall offering $1,000 to each scholarship winner. The College JumpStart Scholarship is an annual, merit-based competition -- financial need is not considered -- that is open to 10th-12th graders, college students and non-traditional students. The main requirement is that you are committed to going to school and can express your goals for getting a higher education. Ducks Unlimited (DU) will award college scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are members of DU. The DutchCrafters Amish Furniture Heritage Scholarship was founded in 2011 as a way to give back to the community by offering education assistance to two outstanding students. The Emma Freeman Scholarship was established through the San Antonio Lighthouse in 1970 to afford students who are legally blind the opportunity to obtain a college education. Individuals may apply for this scholarship needing financial assistance in attending the college, university, or seminary of their choice. Preference will be given to student-athletes who are active members of evangelical Christian churches and who show promise of becoming outstanding Christian citizens in society. The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation administers various scholarships for children and grandchildren of active duty or veteran U.S. Marines or children of active duty or veteran U.S. Navy Corpsmen who have served with a U.S. Marine unit. Any McDonald’s employee in “Good Standing with their operators” that has been with an operator for at least 1 month and is working at minimal of 15 hours per week, will receive, if they apply, up to $2,500 per year to go to the college of their choice to apply against their tuition bill!


Note: Managers up to $3,000, with 20 hours per week employment!

Basic Qualifications: Student must be a member of a Southern Baptist Church, have a declared major in Christian Studies, and feel called by God to either 1) pastoral ministry; 2) youth/student ministry; or 3) church planting ministry.  Residency in Arkansas is not a requirement.  Scholarship amount:  If the student's home church agrees to contribute $250 per year, the ABSC will contribute $2,000 for a total of $2,250 per year.  If the student is also working in a Southern Baptist Church as a staff member, the ABSC will contribute another $2,000 for a total of $4,250 per year.  For additional information, see the Pruet School of Christian Studies website.

 

This is a program of education benefits for students who entered active duty for the first time after June 30, 1985. The student must, with certain exceptions, serve continuously on active duty for three years of a three-year enlistment or, for a lesser benefit, two years of an initial active duty obligation of less than three years. A student also may qualify for benefits by initially serving two continuous years on active duty, followed by four years of Selected Reserve service. Parents qualifying for the G.I. Bill may also be eligible to transfer benefits to their dependents. Those who are eligible should contact the nearest VA Regional Office for assistance in securing benefits. This is a program of education benefits for Reservists of the armed forces as well as the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. To be eligible for this program, a reservist must have a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve, complete Initial Active Duty for Training, have a high school diploma or its equivalent, and remain in good standing in a drilling Selected Reserve unit. Information on campus regarding this program may be obtained by contacting OBU's veterans benefits specialist, James Richards, richardsj@obu.edu, for assistance. 

The NACE Foundation’s Scholarship Program was established to promote the study of corrosion science and engineering, as well as to recognize academic excellence and aid deserving students who demonstrate a drive to succeed and become contributing members of the corrosion industry. The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.
