Ouachita's Dr. Joe Jeffers named Central Arkansas ACS Professor of the Year

Dr. Joe Jeffers, professor emeritus of chemistry at Ouachita Baptist University, was named 2018 Professor of the Year by the Central Arkansas Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) at the society’s recent awards banquet at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

Ouachita students earn top photographer, web editor awards in 2018 ACMA competition

Ouachita Baptist University students earned 46 awards at the recent Arkansas College Media Association (ACMA) conference, including two top awards in general excellence. Andy Henderson was named Photographer of the Year for his work with The Signal student newspaper and Ouachitonian yearbook, and Ethan Dial was named Website Editor of the Year for his work with The Online Signal.

Ouachita to host annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition May 4

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host its annual Virginia Queen Piano Competition Friday, May 4, at 3 p.m. The competition will be held in Ouachita’s McBeth Recital Hall, and admission is free and open to the public.

The history behind Jones Performing Arts Center and Verser Theatre

This year, two facilities that play a large role on Ouachita’s campus are celebrating milestone anniversaries. Verser Theatre is celebrating its 50th year on Ouachita’s campus and houses Ouachita’s theatre program and many of Ouachita’s student productions. Jones Performing Arts Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is another building that has a huge role in every Ouachitonian’s college career.

Ouachita Enactus team named regional champions, advances to national competition

Ouachita Baptist University’s Enactus team was named Regional Champion its annual regional competition in Dallas, Texas. The team will move on to compete at the Enactus National Exposition in Kansas City, Mo., May 20-22.

Ouachita bioinformatics class hosts high school students in Genome Hack-A-Thon

The bioinformatics class at Ouachita Baptist University has spent the semester learning how to examine and decode different viral genomes. The class recently invited junior and senior high school students from six schools from around the state to campus to teach them to do the same during a Genome Hack-A-Thon.
