Ouachita hosts Tiger Day Nov. 1 for students interested in fine arts

Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Admissions Counseling will host its first
Tiger Day specifically for students interested in studying in Ouachita’s School of
Fine Arts on Friday, Nov. 1.
“There will be something for visual art students, theatre students and music students,”
explained Lori Motl, OBU director of admissions counseling. “They’ll get to do some
special things that we don’t get to do on a normal Tiger Day.
“If you’re interested in fine arts, it’s a great opportunity to really get a feel
for what that major would be like,” Motl added. It is a time when “students can rub
shoulders with other prospective students interested in their major.”
Check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Hickingbotham Hall lobby, followed by an opening
session in Young Auditorium. At 11 a.m., students interested in music and theatre
are invited to sit in on performance arts class in McBeth Recital Hall, and students
interested in Art and Design will get a tour of the programs offered in that area.
The OBU Jazz Band will perform during lunch at 12 noon, and guests will have the opportunity
to visit with current students and faculty from the School of Fine Arts.
After lunch, current students and admissions counseling staff will lead campus tours.
At 2 p.m., Ouachita faculty will coach students for auditions or portfolio preparation.
Optional auditions and interview sessions will begin at 3:30 p.m.
All guests are invited to Ouachita Opera Theatre’s production of Die Fledermaus (The Revenge of the Bat) that evening at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center.
