Future students invited to visit Ouachita’s campus
September 08, 2016 - Sarah Davis
Ouachita Baptist University is looking for the class of 2021 and other upcoming classes. There
are several different ways for students interested in Ouachita to come visit campus.
From personal tours to overnight visits, Ouachita Admissions Counseling creates opportunities
to introduce all aspects of the university to prospective students. The first Tiger Day of the fall semester is coming up this Friday, Sept. 9.
“The best way to find out if a campus is right for you is to visit that campus. You
can’t really get a feel for what the campus is like unless you are on the campus,”
said Lori Motl, director of admissions counseling. She noted that these events “give
students an opportunity to come and get different snapshots of what life is like on
campus.”
As high school students plan campus visits, there’s something for everyone. Tiger
Days are weekday events; Preview Days are Saturday events; and GROW is an annual overnight
event each fall. Guests also can schedule personalized tours for any day that is convenient
for their schedule.
Tiger Days include a campus tour led by current Ouachita students as well as lunch.
Prospective students are invited to sit in on a class, and parents are offered a session
with Ouachita administrators. Tiger Day dates for this fall are Sept. 9, Nov. 18 and
Dec. 2. Spring dates are Jan. 27, Feb. 20, March 3, March 13, April 17 and April 26.
Registration is open for Tiger Days now at www.obu.edu/tigerdays.
GROW, or Getting Ready for Ouachita’s World, is an opportunity for high school juniors
and seniors to stay in a residence hall for the night with current OBU students during
Homecoming week. Students are able to sit in on classes and attend a performance of
Tiger Tunes, OBU’s annual sing-and-dance competition that raises more than $100,000
annually for student scholarships. Students may attend GROW either Wednesday, Oct.
12, through Thursday, Oct. 13, or Thursday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 14. Registration
is open now at www.obu.edu/grow and space is limited. There is a fee of $45, which includes a Tiger Tunes ticket,
dinner, breakfast and a T-shirt.
Preview Days are Saturday events that align with some of the most exciting days on
Ouachita’s campus. The fall Preview Day is on Saturday, Nov. 12, and features the
Battle of the Ravine football game, one of the oldest rivalries in college football.
The game is between Ouachita and Henderson State University, located right across
the street in Arkadelphia.
“It’s a day where we can showcase the Tiger Nation spirit,” Motl said. “It’s one of
the oldest and most unique rivalries and the shortest road trip in the NCAA.”
Spring Preview Day is Saturday, April 8, and gives prospective students an opportunity
to see “Arkanas’ most exciting college weekend,” Tiger Traks. Traks is a field day-style
weekend of competition among student teams that raises money for student scholarships.
Students are able to register for both of Preview Day events now at www.obu.edu/previewday.
Ouachita also offers personal campus tours that are specially tailored for individual
students. They are customized to fit a student’s schedule interest. These visits often
include tours of campus, meeting with a dean or coach in their area of interest and
visiting with an admissions counselor.
To schedule a personal tour or to register for any of the events mentioned above,
