Alumni profile: Flight 1420 Crash
February 27, 2020It’s been 20 years since the Ouachita Singers, returning from a mission trip to Europe, crashed on the final leg of their trip in Little Rock on American Airlines Flight 1420. Survivors returned to Arkadelphia in June 2019 to mark the 20th anniversary of that night, June 1, 1999.
Alumni profile: Alice (Evans '45) Brooks
February 27, 2020Alice Brooks is not the kind of person you would expect to leave behind a million-dollar estate gift. A hardworking schoolteacher in rural Arkansas, the impression she left on her students was undeniable. Thanks to her generous gift, her dedication to education will live on at Ouachita, as well.
When I was a student at Ouachita in the 1990s, we often heard the phrase “lifelong learning.” In my undergraduate mind, this made sense in the context of ongoing spiritual growth and, vaguely, in connection to my chosen field of study, Latin American history. Beyond that, the amount of lifelong learning my professional path would require wasn’t anything I could imagine.

Spring enrollment at Ouachita reaches eight-year high
February 25, 2020Spring 2020 enrollment for Ouachita Baptist University’s residential campus reached an eight-year high of 1,440 this spring. It is a 4.3% increase from spring 2019 and is the university’s highest spring enrollment since 2012.

February 24, 2020Previously published in the 2019 Ouachitonian yearbook Hayden Reedy, a freshman communications and media major from Dallas, Texas, had a dream. However, it wasn’t the typical childhood dream of being a famous singer or athlete. Hayden dreamed of a career in law enforcement. “They could carry guns and drive fast,” said Reedy. “For a little boy, that was interesting.”

The event is part of Ouachita’s Birkett Williams Endowed Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.
