Summer, 2013

Willis, Kelsey.  Production of alpha toxin and toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 by menstrual toxic shock syndrome clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus.  Currently Kelsey is finishing her senior year at Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a 3.97 GPA in chemistry with a minor in biology.  She will be attending the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy this fall (2014).

Stanford, Taylor.  The effect of spent media isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 on biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus.  Currently Taylor is finishing her senior year at Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a 3.9 GPA in chemistry.  She will be attending the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy this fall (2013).

Summer, 2010

Barnette, Dusty.  Does the post-exponential sigma factor (sigB) regulate hyaluronidase expression in Staphylococcus aureus?  Dusty also did a 2nd summer (2011) in the Division of Microbiology with Dr. Steve Foley.  Dusty graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a B.S. degree (4.00 GPA) in Biology and Chemistry 2012.  Currently Dusty is employed as a Microbiologist by the Quality Sausage Company in Dallas.  His career goal is to enter the Medical Illustrator Graduate Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

Harper, Drew.  Can hyaluronic acid be used as a carbon and energy source by Staphylococcus aureus?  Drew graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas in May, 2011 with a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry.  He is currently attending the Physician’s Assistance Program at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.

Dicus, Sandy L.  Toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) expression by Staphylococcus aureus in a modified genital tract secretion medium.  Sandy graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas in May, 2009 with a B.S. degree in Biology.  She is currently living out of the country.

Lane, Stacie L.  Toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) expression by Staphylococcus aureus grown in the presence and absence of spent media isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum.  Stacie graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas in May, 2009 with a B.A. degree in Biology and Spanish.  She will be attending the Louise Herrington School of Nursing of Baylor University in Dallas, Texas in the Fall of 2013.

Ward, James A.  Hyaluronidase gene (hysA1 and hysA2) expression in Staphylococcus aureus.  James graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas in May, 2012 with a B.S. degree in Biology.  James plans to attend medical school.


Summer, 2009

Hart, Morgan J.  The use of a hyaluronidase assay to differentiate Staphylococcus aureus from coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS).  Morgan graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) with a B.S. degree in Nursing in May, 2011 (spent the first two years at OBU as part of the joint OBU/UAMS Nursing Program).  She is currently employed by UAMS as a nurse in the cardiovascular ICU.  Her career goals are to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Kay (Roop), Anna J.  Genetic analysis of staphylococcal species for the presence or absence of the hyaluronidase gene (hysA).  Anna also did a 2nd summer (2010) in the Division Neurotoxicology with Dr. Larry Schmued.   Anna graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 2010, got married and is currently a homemaker.
